Phoenix, Arizona - A newsroom…
BREAKING NEWS - This just in! We cut now to our on scene reporter, Maria Cordova. How’s the scene Maria?
Quite frankly Don, it’s hectic here. It would appear that a gang stole the Super Bowl XLII. Eye witnesses state they saw a group of men repeatedly assault Super Bowl XLII MVP Tom Brady, leaving him dazed and confused.
“It wasn’t fair!” Brady declared, tearful, “They wouldn’t let me even stand up! That Super Bowl is mine! That MVP is mine, and they took it!”
There are conflicting accounts as to who actually conducted the theft, some witnesses stating that it was a large group of men with New York accents. However, there are reports of a surly suspicious-looking man in a red New England Patriots hoodie leaving the scene early…
…
Ok, so that’s not exactly what happened, but it’s pretty damn close.
I watched the Super Bowl with an American buddy of mine.
He was rooting for the Patriots - given he’s an Eagles fan he felt he couldn’t support a hated division rival. I was cheering for the Giants for exactly the same reason.
Here are a few of my thoughts regarding the game…
-
I hereby officially remove the 2007/08 Patriots from any conversation on the topic “Greatest Ever”. You cannot, simply cannot choke like this in the sport’s premier event, and be even in consideration. And to play the way they did… ugh. I don’t give a damn about ‘perfect-regular-season’. All counts for naught now. Don’t believe me? Ask New England.
-
Likewise for Tom Brady. Maybe in a few years if he can get back & find redemption after this loss, but he looked point-blank FRIED out there. The Giants defense had him worried, and throwing chickens (did you see the way his passes flapped around compared to Eli Manning’s tight spirals?)…
-
On Eli - he’s well & truly arrived, huh?
-
New York’s receivers were all they promised to be. Including Plaxico ‘Nostrodamus’ Burress… Perhaps a lil’ generous on his prediction tho’. Betting Tom Brady would have loved the 17 points that Burress originally stated that the Pats’d get.
-
Special mention must go to both Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey, who graciously provided both inspiration & motivation with their verbal trashing of their (ex in Barber’s case) team. Tiki looks a lil’ stupid now, huh? Bet he wishes that he retired end of this year. And Shockey - nice support there chump. Sit in a box rather than down on the sidelines offering support. Here’s to Boss taking your position for good…
-
I know it’s been said many many times in the hours post the finish, but the Eli Manning-led drive in the dying minutes of the 4th quarter was one for the ages. Brilliant, brilliant stuff. And the play where he avoided the grasping hands of several Patriots, and threw a pass to David Tyree - who in turn pulled off a miraculous catch - was one for the ages.
-
Belichick. What we always knew, he’s a classless jerk, huh? After the way he ran up scores all season, and justified it, to not stand on the sidelines and watch the final end to the Super Bowl just stinks. Guy will, and should, cop a barrage for that.
-
Congratulations to those tipsters that tipped the New York Giants. In my article Super Bowl Week - Who’s Gonna Win? - only Andrew Isaac (The World Of Isaac), Rupert/Stan of (The Ghosts of Wayne Fontes), Ed Ziti (MVN Lakers Library), Sooze (Babes Love Baseball) tipped the Giants… with Sooze tipping “I’m gonna go with little Manning by a field goal, just to mix it up.” Well done.
-
As a ‘Phin phan myself, I’m sure the ‘72 Dolphins enjoyed the result, and the champagne. Hat’s off to you guys…
-
Lastly… Rob? We can call them ‘The Patsies’ again.
