If NBA Teams were Movie Stars (NBA Power Rankings) E-mail

Interestingly, this week I think we're in with our clearest #1.  LA head out on a road trip that finishes with Boston & Cleveland, and put their collective hand up as to wanting to be #1.  The other thing that I find surprising is how many teams are able to put in what could be best described as "middling" results.

To do something different, we all love lists, movies - and the NBA... so going to use movie stars as an allegory for each team's fortunes.

With Malice's Pawaa Rannkingu

angelina_jolie1. LA Lakers (3) - Angelina Jolie.  Stunning performer who can play it tough, but always looking good doing it.  Everyone either wants to be her, or be with her.
2. Cleveland Cavaliers (4) - Tom Cruise.  Incredible star power, but the take has always been that he's low on actual substance.
3. Boston Celtics (1) - Clint Eastwood.  Older, but always has class.  Inevitably finds a way to get the job done, and produce something truly brilliant.
4. San Antonio Spurs (5) - Mickey Rourke.  Rejuvenated aging pugilistic star having yet another bash at being near the top.  But does he have the legs to go all the way?
5. Orlando Magic (2) - Brad Pitt.  Whilst the opinion has always been that there's not a lot of depth there, we're beginning to realise that there's more to this actor than the surface allows.  Deeper than we realised.
6. Denver Nuggets (6) - Johnny Depp.  Always amazing with the versatility that this guy displays.
7. Portland Trail Blazers (7) - Zac Efron.  Young up-and-comer.  Looks good, but there are doubts as to whether he has the ability to take on the big guys.
jackie8. Houston Rockets (9) - Jackie Chan.  Amazing Chinese performer that often spends time in hospital (due to performin his own stunts).
9. Dallas Mavericks (13) - Naomi Watts.  Blonde foreign star that sometimes impresses, and sometimes gives performances that fall quite flat.
10. Philadelphia 76ers (10) - Danny DeVito.  Lil' guy with a lot of heart.  Don't need the big guy to make something work.
11. New Orleans Hornets (8) - Leonardo Di Capprio.  At times incredibly impressive, but then will put in a performance that leaves us asking "why?".
12. Atlanta Hawks (11) - Kevin Bacon.  An actor who has turned being in the shadow of others into a career.
13. Miami Heat (12) - John Travolta.  Can single-handedly make a movie rock.  And often has to.  Thing is, sometimes his choice of working environment flat out sucks.
14. Minnesota Timberwolves (14) - Mark Wahlberg.  Versatile performer who recently has taken on tough guy roles.
15. Utah Jazz (16) - Mel Gibson.  Talented, but often loses focus when traveling... and has a propensity to say politically incorrect things.
elisha_cuthbert16. Phoenix Suns (15) - Michael Madsen.  Tough guy with a soft heart.  Fallen on hard times recently.
17. New Jersey Nets (20) - Jim Carrey.  Amazing talent, but hasn't really delivered.  Ever.
18. New York Knicks (17) - Katie Holmes.  Biggest story of this star's career was wooing Tom Cruise.  Other than that... not much.
19. Detroit Pistons (18) - Meryl Streep.  Amazing performer that still is capable of burning it, but now... as often as not misses.  Perhaps resting on laurels a little.
20. Oklahoma City Thunder (23) - Elisha Cuthbert.  Young, hot star that is oh so fine... that can appear shallow upon closer inspection.
21. Milwaukee Bucks (21) - Keanu Reeves.  Has fans, but is basically a... well... ummm... hack.
22. Chicago Bulls (24) - Robert Downey Jr.  A history of living life in the fast lane, sometimes still surprises.
23. Golden State Warriors (22) - Jessica Alba.  At one stage was definitely in the spotlight, but not quite at the moment.  Still looks damn good.
24. Charlotte Bobcats (19) - James Spader.  Star in Crash.  Does well in that Boston show...
25. Indiana Pacers (26) - Sylvester Stallone.  Wooden performer that should have called it quits years ago.
heath-ledger26. LA Clippers (29) - Jack Nicholson.  Grizzled vet who dwells in LA.  Sometimes looks good, but often can be found at the Staples Center, just basking in the reflected glory of the Lakers.
27. Memphis Grizzlies (30) - Miley Cyrus.  Could have a big future.  Or could amount to not much at all.
28. Toronto Raptors (25) - Hayden Christiansen.  Canadian actor that promised much, and failed to deliver.
29. Washington Wizards (28) - Heath Ledger. One damn good performance, but... well... dead.
30. Sacramento Kings (27) - Jenna Jameson.  Sucking like no-one's business.

I really like Heath Ledger... and I think I'm being incredibly harsh on the "one damn good performance" comment (he had quite a few I really liked). But from what I've seen/read, he had a sense of humor. I honestly don't think he'd mind.
But whatever, maybe we'll burn baby, burn Rob!

also ya can't say jim carrey has amazing talent and then say never deliver. He wasn't a funny comedian to begin with. I lump him with the like of adam sandler and mike meyers...people who have a rep of being funny, but it's just a rep.
