The next little while will be interesting for NBA fans, and a little nerve-wracking for Cleveland fans. LeBron's contract extension: will he sign it, or won't he?
The Cavs offered LeBron a 3 year extension as soon as they were able (July 18th), and apparently there have been ongoing negotiations regarding this, but Danny Ferry/Cleveland/LeBron/Leon Rose (agent in question) are playing their collective cards close to the chest.
If he signs on for another 3 years, the city of Cleveland breathes a collective sigh of relief, and it may be a reprieve for Ferry. And if he doesn't agree to extend, it's no definite decree that he's bound for another city. All it means is that he'll explore his options... and that Cleveland will get to exist on tenterhooks for yet another season, caught in that weird mix of ecstacy that they have LeBron and a fear of his imminent departure that leaves the entire city sick to the stomach.
For my part, I don't think LeBron signs on for another tour of duty at Cleveland. At least, not yet. My reasoning is twofold, and neither regards LBJ as definitely leaving the Cavs:
1. LeBron will leave his options open. If the Cavs win the title after adding Shaq, Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker... then he's staying. Anything less than a title won't guarantee it tho'.
2. The building drama... anything less than leaving the decision to the last moment won't suit LeBron's ego. Not at all.
Fun times for everyone.
