It's been a while since we've done an MVP/ROY vote, and it's a good time to do it: coming out of the All Star break, heading down that final stretch of games towards the playoffs. Who'll get there? Well, the following players are going to impact that greatly...
MVP
1. LeBron James - LeBron's continued dominance in the MVP category should lead to his being able to make some interesting t-shirt choices during the Summer.
2. Kobe Bryant - Don't believe that how well LA are doing sans Kobe means that Bryant isn't amongst the elite of the elite this season. The Lakers are just doing what all elite teams do: win. And throughout this season, #24's been a very big part of that.
3. Kevin Durant - The Durantula has lead a young OKC team to 5th spot in the West. No mean feat. There's no reason to believe that he'll let them stop there either
4. Dwyane Wade - Wade's good... no doubting that. But Miami isn't. And given Mr James's ability to carry a team of off-casts to the very top of the East, where should the blame for the Heat's inability to rise sit?
5. Deron Williams - Utah's sitting pretty at 3rd in the West, and forget about Boozer's good play: Deron Williams is the WHY of this team's success.
6. Dwight Howard - Dwight's a beast, of that there's no doubt. But I can't see him ever being higher than this while he continues to allow Shaq take up residence in his head.
7. Carmelo Anthony - I'm not even completely sure that Melo's the best player on his team.
8. Chris Bosh - The Raptors have dropped the 'C' of late (Craptors), and Bosh's leading a charge on Boston's previously unassailable mastery of the Atlantic.
9. Steve Nash - Ageless.
10. Dirk Nowitzki - Dirk doing it the way he always has. Quietly.
ROY
1. Tyreke Evans - Evans has built up quite the reputation. To the extent where using just that, he was able to rob Dejuan Blair of the Rookies/Sophs game MVP. I'm not even sure that Evans will end up being the best player of this draft, but this year? Clearly.
2. Stephen Curry - Incredible vision - I can think of 3 GMs who should be kicking themselves for their own lack of.
3. Brandon Jennings - After a whirl-wind start to the season, Jennings has settled down to where he really is: pretty damn good.
4. Jonas Jerebko - Jerebko's actually ended up being a very, very handy piece for the Pistons. Definitely a key figure in any rebuilding plan.
5. Dejuan Blair - Blair's making those that passed on him look very stupid indeed. Kid's a beast.
